Junior Hurling Championship Round 1 Replay
On a lovely evening in Tom Ryall Park, spectators were treated to a cracker of a game. Nothing separated St. Martin’s and Ballyhale Shamrocks when these sides met last weekend so they had to square up again. Ballyhale were first off the mark with a point from Brian Cody which was quickly cancelled out by Donal Shore with a point for Martin’s. The Shamrocks side had established a four point lead by the 20th minute. With Shane Kinsella and Jason Shore converting free’s and Donal Shore been unlucky to have his shot at goal deflected out for a 65, Martin’s trailed at half time by 6 points. (Ballyhale Shamrocks 0-12, St. Martin’s 0-6). The second half saw the momentum swing in St. Martin’s favour as they came out determined to gain the lead. As their opponents added another two points to their tally, the Martin’s men chipped away to reduce the deficit with points from Shane Kinsella, Paul Maher, Thomas Walsh and goalie Jason Shore converting a long range free. The equaliser came in the 19th minute when Shane Kinsella landed the ball in around the goal mouth. As a scramble ensued, Paul Maher finished the ball to the back of the net. Both sides rushed to gain the upper hand as Shane Kinsella, Noel D’arcy and Adrian Farrell traded points with their counterparts. Just before the full time whistle, Ballyhale had a chance to take the game when the Martin’s goal was left undefended but was blasted wide. Que extra time. With a great comeback already under their belts, Martin’s had to dig a little deeper in extra time. They scrapped, fought hard and showed great team spirit to go two points up at half time of extra time. Shamrock’s came back at Martin’s as they scored two points to level the game again. Once again, the sides traded points before Tommy Quirke pointed for Martin’s, certain it was the winner. However, Ballyhale Shamrock’s shot over another point to send the game to a second replay. In an overcast Coon, St. Martin’s and O’Loughlin Gaels squared up to one another in the North Junior B Championship. In the meantime, O’Loughlin’s went 0-3 to 0-1 up. But then, the first goal of the game came when Damien Tynan crossed a good ball to Brandon Sheehan who finished the ball to the net for Martin’s to go up by one. After that, Donal Shore, Tommy Quirke, and Adrian Farrell traded points with Barrie Hogan, Vincent Wallace and David Rice to go in with the mininum between the sides at half time. Kevin Fennelly Semi-Final
On a breezy Sunday evening, St. Martin’s and Barrow Rangers lined out in the Kevin Fennelly Cup. St. Martin’s, assisted with the wind in the first half, kept up with their opponents despite them getting a goal midway through the half. It was a close first half with Shane Kinsella, Mick Morrissey, Donal Shore, Luke Maher and Thomas Walsh all trading scores with the Paulstown side, leaving the half time score St. Martin’s 0-10 Barrow Rangers 1-6. However, with the loss of Mick Morrissey and Luke Maher through injury early in the second half, and Ranger’s aided by the strong breeze up the field, the second half clearly belonged to them. St. Martin’s, though been accurate when they did get scoring chances were not strong enough for their counterparts. The Barrow Rangers outfit went on to win on scoreline of 2-19 to St. Martin’s 0-17.

On a damp afternoon in Coon, St. Martin’s Junior’s took on Tullaroan in the J.J Kavanagh & Son’s Junior Hurling League third round. After the Senior’s been defeated the night before, St. Martin’s had a big task ahead of them to pick themselves up to collect their first two points of this league. In the seventh and ninth minutes, Shane Kinsella, been on form, added a further two points (one from play and a pointed free when James Callinan was fouled) to his sides tally. However, that was quickly cancelled out when Shane Kinsella, once again, converted a free to leave three between the sides. (St.Martins 0-4, Tullaroan 0-1). Shane Walsh duly put it the resultant 65 over the bar to level the game. A high dropping ball from Eugene Maher was swiftly finished to the back of the net by Conor Kinsella. Shane Walsh tapped a free over for the Green and White to leave two points between the sides. Both sides traded points with Luke Maher and Shane Kinsella been on target for St. Martin’s while Sam Grace, Eddie Teehan, Shane Walsh and Jack Keoghan supplied Tullaroan’s points.
