Senior League


 Muckalee travelled to Mooncoin for their second game in the Senior Football League. It was the home side with the aid of a gale force wind that dominated the first half leading 0-6 to no score at half time.  On the resumption the Muckalee attack had more luck with their finishing to get back in the game, levelling coming up to full time but a point for Mooncoin gave them victory. Well done to Bill Dowling who made his Senior debut doing well. Final Score 1-8 to 1-7.

Second round


Carrickshock were the visitors to the Community School grounds in the second match of the Junior League against Muckalee. After a well contested opening half the score was 2-4 to 0-6 in favour of the visitors. The scores from Robert Shore, Darragh Quinlan and  Eoin Murphy. Good start


Muckalee Senior footballers made a good start to the League with a hard fought win against Clara in Clara. The early exchanges were even with both sides missing some goal chances but the visiting side had a five point lead at the break 0-8 to 0-3. The points came from Mick Morrissey with three Thomas Breen two and one each from Canice Maher,Shane Kinsella and Thomas Lalor. Fresh from their win in the u17 County Football Final the selectors gave a number of those players a run out at Senior level, Shane Fahy, Thomas Lalor, Jack Farrell, and Josh Dempsey who scored a goal with his first touch early in the second half, all four lads accquited themselves well. Just when it looked like Muckalee looked to have a commanding lead wind assisted Clara scored two goals in a minute to thunder back into contention for the points. Colin McGrath, Mick Morrissey and Canice Maher added points in the second half to leave the final score Muckalee 1-11 to Clara 2-7 after a tight finish.

First outing


Muckalee’s first outing in the Junior Football League was against Winegap . The game was played In the Community School grounds, and despite a spirited effort from the lads the southern side were more much clinical and ran out winners on the score 2-1 to 7-13.

Muckalee bow out


Muckalee bowed out of the Senior Football Championship at the semi final stage against Mullinavat in Danesfort . The early exchanges saw both sides leading at different stages with points from Bryan Byrne, Tom Morrissey, David Walsh and Brian Coady . A well worked gaol from David Walsh (on as a sub for the injured Paddy Nolan) in  the 24th  minute had Muckalee in a strong position with a five point lead. Mullinavat cut into that lead with a converted penalty to leave the half time score 1-9 to 1-7. Robert Shore and Bryan Byrne added points early as Muckalee battled hard to keep the pressure on an improving Mullinavat side who had a three point lead with time running out and added another goal and two points in added time to record a convincing win. Over all a good game with both sides contributing greatly. Final score 2-16 to 1-11

Replay win


Muckalee with a replay win advanced to the next round against Dicksboro at their own ground. It was the home side that setteled the better and were on top in the first twenty minutes leading 1-5 with the goal coming from Sean Maher. Dicksboro notched four points to leave the score at the break 1-8 to 0-4. Three more points for Dicksboro after the break had them right back in the game but it was Muckalee that came to the fore to finish well on the score line of 2-12 to 0-10. Sean Maher added another goal in the closing moments.

Draw game


St. James Park was the venue for the Senior Football Championship clash between Muckalee and Dicksboro on a wet and stormy day. Muckalee played against the wind in the first half and led at the break 1-3 to 0-5. The goal coming from Sean Maher and the points from John Maher. Tom Morrissey added a second half goal with points from Thomas Breen Joe Maher and John Maher . Muckalee looked set for victory holding a three point lead with time almost up but Dicksboro goaled to secure a draw when they were awarded a penalty only after Stephen Murphy had saved the initial shot. Result 2-7 each the replay will be in Muckalee. Harry Kealy made his debut at senior level in this game well done.

Juniors bow out


The Muckalee Junior footballers were drawn away to Tullaroan in the Championship.The home side set the tone of the game with a goal after two minutes and went on to lead at the break 3-8 to 0-2. Paul Maher and Harry Kealy registered the points. The loss of players to the Senior side was a drawback to the team but in fairness to the lads the never gave up right to the end.The scores came from Darragh Quinlan, Dean Farrell, John Joe Kelly and Brandon Sheehan. Stern test


Muckalee were away to Tullogher/Rosbercon in the first round of the Senior Football Championship in Tullogher. Bryan Byrne opened the scoring after five minutes to which T/R replied , further points from John Maher and Bryan Byrne had the visitors ahead approaching the break then T/B scored a fortuitous goal to leave the half-time score 1-4 to 0-5. On the resumption the Muckalee lads upped their game and built a five point lead but once again T/B were not finished and cut the lead to two points with a fine goal.  Muckalee responded well after a stern test to advance to the next round.A greater spread of scorers and a resolute defence in the second half was key to the success, Brian Coady pointed and goaled after taking a super pass from Patrick Nolan, Thomas Breen chipped in with two points, Joseph Maher, Canice Maher also pointed. John Maher and Bryan added to their added to their first half tally. Final score 1-13 to 2-6.
