Muckalee travelled to Dr. Tierney park to play Graignamanagh in the first round of the Junior Football Championship. The home side who had already won the Junior League proved to strong on this occasion. Half time score 3-3 to 0-2 and final score 5-10 to 1-7.

Champions visit


Last year’s County Championship Thomastown were the visitors to Muckalee for the second round of the Senior Football ,League. The home side got off to the better start and were winning Muckalee 1-5 to Thomastown 0-2 at the break, the goal came after good build up play and finished by Joe Maher. The score in the second was a mirror image of the first scoring wise with the second goal also the result of a sweeping move for Tom Morrissey to finish to the net. Final Score 2-10 to 0-4

Second round


The second round of the Junior football league took place in Johnstown on a blustery and cold afternoon, despite this both sides can can be complemented on their efforts. Muckalee had the better of the first half to lead 0-4 to 0-1. On the resumption it was the Fenians who found their shooting boots but despite this the visitors were still in the game until the hosts had the only goal of the game in the closing minutes final score Fenians 1-7 to Muckalee 0-4

First Win


Muckalee made the trip to Danesfort in the opening round of the Senior Football league. The game was played under lights, the players had to contend with wind and snow showers. Wind assisted Muckalee led at the break 0-6 to 0-2. Danesfort pressed strongly on the resumption but good defending and goal keeping kept them out. Muckalee had a fine goal from Colm Kealy and a good spread of scores among the forwards left the result 1- 9 to 1-3 a great effort from both sides.

Junior football


Muckalee and the Emeralds were in action in the first round of the League and after a good contest it was the visitors that were winners. On a windy and cold night Muckalee trailed 1-3 to 1-2 at half time the goal was scored by Conor Dooley. On the resumption Muckalee hit a purple patch and took a four point but the Emeralds ability to score goals was the difference between sides. Final score 3-5 to 1-9.

Championship 2021


Muckalee were drawn to play Railyard in the first round of a knock out championship. The game was played in Muckalee under lights. Muckalee started well scoring two points at the first water it was Railyard who were leading 4 points to 2. Two further points were added by the home side and at the break it was 6 points to 4 . Railyard dominated the third quarter scoring the only goal of the game. Muckalee scored 4 further points in the second half and competed well but is was not enough , railyard went on to win 1-12 to 0-8 and advance to the next round.

Junior quarter final


Muckalee played Tullaroan in the quarter final of the Junior football championship a repeat of last years fixture. The game played in Muckalee under lights, was competitive throughout. Tullaroan were ahead at the break 1-5 to 0-6. A goal from Eoin Murphy in the last quarter had Muckalee in the lead but Tullaroan replied immediately to regain the lead. A gallant effort from the lads overall. Final score 2-9 to 1-10.

Championship exit


Mooncoin were the visitors to Muckalee for the first round of the Senior Football championship . With the away side playing with the aid of a gale force wind the hosts did really well to be level at the break 0-5 each. Mooncoin were on top for the opening quarter scoring some great points. Muckalee got their first score of the half in the fifteenth minute and pushed for victory right to the end put is was not enough although they can bemoan some bad finishing and bad luck hitting the cross bar in each half. Final score 0-12 to 0-9.

Muckalee travelled to play their last game in the Senior Football League against Mullinavat. On a cold but dry morning it was the County Champions from last year that prevailed due to better finishing when they got their chances. Half time score 2-6 to 0-5 . Despite upping their game in the second period it was not enough to unsettle Mullinivat who ran out winners 4-12 to 1-9, Bryan Byrne scoring the goal for Muckalee, Jack Farrell acquited himself well on his first start for the Seniors. Next outing is the first round of the championship v Mooncoin in Muckalee
