Early exit

Muckalee and Railyard met in the first round of the Junior football Championship in Coon. Railyard made good use of the elements in the second half but were matched all the way by a determined home side  who regained the lead in the fifty second minute with a goal from Eoin Murphy who finished  well after a great effort from Brandon Sheehan brought a super save from the Railyard goalie. Two further points from Railyard put them the next round the winner coming in added time. Final score 1-6 to 1-7. Low scoring final

Muckalee appearing in their sixth final in a row were unsucessful in their attempt to make it five out of six.The game was played in Nowlan Park before apprecative followers but it was not to be for Muckalee , as Railyard triumphed after a well contested game. Colin McGrath opened the scoring in th fourth minute taking a pass from John Maher the next scores went to Railyard but Muckalee hit a purple patch from the twenty first to the twenty fourth minutes, first Colin McGrath scored his second point after a pass from Robert Shore , next  Shane Coonan pointed with the assist from John Maher, and it was Robert Shore who provided the pass for John Maher to score Muckalees only goal of the game to leave the half-time score 1-3 to 0-3. On the resumption it was still all to play for and it was Railyard who took their chances to win with goal and a late point. Eoin McGrath got our only point in the second half with the assist from Bryan Byrne in the fifteeth minute. Although the lads were dissapointed with the loss they can take great satisfaction from their efforts over recent years winning four titles.Final score 1-5 to 1-4.

Good Friday for footballers

Muckalee and St, Patricks Ballyraggett was the novel paring in this quarteg final clash played in Lisdowney. On an evening taken from summertime the sides served up a good game and it was last years Intermediate winners that took to game to the title holders racing into a two point lead. James Maher got Muckalee off the mark in the sixth minute and two Colin McGrath points had his side in front after the first quarter. Shane Coonan was unlucky with an effort crashing off the cross bar and Colin McGrath had  four more points to leave the half time score 0-7 to 0-4. Ballyraggett were first on the scoreboard on the resumption with a point to leave just two between the sides but a Paddy Nolan score steadied the nerves, a black card for a Muckalee player was closely followed by a point blank save by John Coonan had it gone it would have levelled the game. The colour of the next card was a red for a Ballyraggett player and  with Colin landing three points and Brandon Sheehan a second black card replacement landing the final score to leave the result 0-12 to 0-5 . Muckalee will be glad to make the semis but still have lots of work to do .

Despite a sleat shower and a strong cross field wind only one wide was recorded in the first half by either side. A pointed free by Colin opened the scoring in the new half.  With little between the sides the first goal was going to be important and it came to Muckalee  a long delivery from midfield was fielded by Brandon Sheehan he passed to Oliver Walsh and he fed Colin to finish in style.
