Seniors make final


Muckalee Senior footballers qualified for their seventh County Final in a row with a win over Glenmore. The game was played in the Dicksboro grounds Palmerstown. Wind assisted Muckalee started well with points from Mick Morrissey and Robert Shore and the first goal of the match in the fifth minute scored by Robert taking a  pass from Shane Coonan. Colin McGrath pointed just before Glenmore opened their account in the seventh minute and he also smashed a penalty to the net after Bryan Byrne was fouled . John Maher scored a free and Eoin McGrath opened with a point followed a goal around the twenty minute mark, the assist from Colin. Half time score 3-5 to 0-2. On the resumption Glenmore pressed hard but points James and John 0Maher kept the scoreboard ticking over. Glenmore then had three score on the bounce before Colin and Shane closed the scoring . County champions Railyard were also succesfull in their Semi thus setting up a repeat of last weeks final in the coming weeks. Final score Muckalee 3-11 to Glenmore 0-6.

Good win


On a lovely evening for hurling Kilmacow made the long trip to Muckalee to take on St.Martins in the Roinn B League and in a game when both sides had their spells when they dominated .  It was the home side who were in the lead at the break 3-4 to 0-5. In the second half Kilmacow’s ability to hit goals from frees brought them right back into the game and the lead reduced to two points entering the final moments , sensing the danger St. Martins finished strongly with two points. Final score 4-9 to 3-8.

Good start


St. Martins u16 hurlers made an encouraging start to their  Roinn B League with a home win in Muckalee. On a beautifull  warm evening both sides played some great hurling and it was the ability of the St Martins forwards to convert the goal chances that made the difference. Tullogher Rosbercon trailed at the break 3.4 to1.4 . Both sides scored a goal in the second half to leave the Final score 4.8 to 2.6.

Championship win


As happened many times before in their long footballing history Muckalee took on near neighbours Conahy in the quarter final of the Senior Football Championship in Canon Kerins Park. On a fine but cold day it was Muckalee who made the biighter start scoring five points in the opening twenty minutes . Conahy came well in the game and dominated for the remainder of the half scoring two points . Scorers for Muckalee in that half were Shane Coonan with three points and Mick Morrissey,John Mulhall and John Maher with a point each. Half time score was 0-6 to 0-2. Four goals were scored in the second half . The first  three were scored by Muckalee number one was a penalty neatly converted by Colin McGrath after a foul on Eoin, the second was scored by Eoin himself and the third was by Bryan Byrne after a pass from Eoin, Conahys goal came in the closing moments of the game. Joe and John Maher added the points to leave the full time score 3-8 to 1-6 after a hard fought game.

Early exit


Muckalee and Railyard met in the first round of the Junior football Championship in Coon. On a cold wet and windy afternoon Muckalee had the first use of the elements and  were leading at half time 0-6 to 0-2. Jason Shore had three fine points  Eugene Maher, Damien Tynan and James Kelly were also on the scoreboard. Railyard made good use of the elements in the second half but were matched all the way by a determined home side  who regained the lead in the fifty second minute with a goal from Eoin Murphy who finished  well after a great effort from Brandon Sheehan brought a super save from the Railyard goalie. Two further points from Railyard put them the next round the winner coming in added time. Final score 1-6 to 1-7. A fair year overall for the mainly youthful side with some older lads in the mix who improved with every game. Conor Dowling made his debut at this level and did well.

League Semi-Final


Muckalee had home advantage in the league semi final against near neighbours Railyard who made the short trip to Coon.  Two early pointed frees from John Maher gave Muckalee a decent start but Railyard opened their scoring in the twentieth minute and went on to lead at the break 1-3 to 0-2, the goal came from a high ball into the square that took a deflection in added time. Railyard added three points to build up a commanding lead but Muckalee came more into the game at this stage and played some of their best football with points from midfieldiers  Joe Maher , Bryan Byrne and John Maher to leave a goal between the sides but the County Champions held firm and finished strongly with two points in the closing minutes. Final score 1-8 to 0-6

New Grounds


Muckalee were away to James Stephens in their last game in the  group stages of the Senior Football League. The game was played in their impressive new grounds on the Kells road. Colin McGrath opened the scoring with a point in the third minute his first of many in this game. Other scores in the first for Muckalee were Joseph Maher , Shane Coonan and Eugene Maher.  James Stephens were well in the game at the break .Half time score 0-7 to 0-5. The turning point of the second half was a penalty scored by Colin McGrath after a foul on himself he also added two points as did John Maher. Final score 1-12 to 0-10.

First outing


Muckalee had their first outing in the Senior Football League against O Loughlin Gaels with a home game under lights . Shane Coonan opened the scoring  in the third minute but the visitors replied with three points followed by a Eugene Maher point after a run and pass from John Mulhall. With eight minutes remaining The Gaels scored the only goal of the match followed by a point to give them a good grip on the game, the last three points of the half were three points from Colin McGrath to leave it 0-5 to 1-4 at the break. The Gaels went on to hit three points and Muckalee had points from Bryan Byrne ,Colin McGrath, John Mulhall, Shane Coonan,  and two from John Maher the last a late late winner. On a cold night of zero temperature Shane Dowling made his debut at Senior level and did well.  Final score 0-11 to 1-7.

First point


In their second game in the Junior Football League Muckalee and Graignamanagh played out a draw in a competive game. After a slow start Mark Murphy opened the scoring for Muckalee with a point followed by a goal and a point from Brandon Sheehan, the goal was set up by good approach from James Kelly and Jason Shore. Half time score 1-2 to 1-4. Muckalee made a storming start to the second half with two points from Jason Shore and a goal and apoint from Brandon Sheehan in the first four minutes. The goal came from a long range James Kelly free that was punched to the net.  Graignamanagh then set about getting back into the match and fought hard to draw the game . On a cold night in Muckalee with temperetures dropping below zero towards the end of the game well done to both sides . Final score 2-5 t0 1-8.
