St Martins u 14 Footballers made a good start to in Roinn A North Football League group B. Played in Coon against Freshford the lads put in a good performance against a game visiting side . Full time score 5-11 to 1-1.

Kilmoganny win


Kilmoganny were the visitors to Muckalee and went away with the points on offer after a convincing win in the Senior Football League. On a cold and wintery night it was  the visitors who made the best start ,the half time score was 1-1 to 0-6 the goal came from Eoin McGrath with the assist from Jason Shore. Muckalees best spell came after the resumption but when Kilmoganny scored their first goal the went on to win. Final score 2-11 to 1-3

First points


Muckalee picked up their first points of the Senior Football League after a hard earned win against Conahy, the game was played in Jenkinstown. Conahy were first on the scoreboard but Muckalee  got into the game when Thomas Breen goaled after taking a pass from Shane Kinsella and Shane got a second goal after good work by Tom Morrissey to leave the interval score 2-6 to 0-2 . Conahy came out with renewed vigour scoring 1-2 without reply but scores from John Maher and Tom Morrissey steady matters until Conahy cut the lead to two points entering the closing minutes .Muckalee got the last score from Shane Dowling who was making his debut along with Tommy Quirke, Shane Kinsella and Thomas Breen. Final score 2-11 to 2-8.

Muckalee had their first outing of the Junior Football League which was played at home v Threecastles. The visitors were behind at the break  1-5 to 0-1. The second half continued in the same vein with Muckalee winning 3-12 to  0-4.

u21 Semi-final Football 2015


Muckalee played host to Graignamanagh in Muckalee and after a well contested game it was the visitors who advanced to the County Final .Graignamanagh had first use of the elements and were in the lead at the break 0-6 to 1-1. Muckalee’s scores came from a well finished goal from Jason Shore and a Mark Dowling point as well as a great save by Damien Egan set up the prospect of a good contest for the second half. Both sides had their chances and points from Brian Cody, Tommy Quirke and a goal from attacking half back Eoin Murphy had the sides level with time almost up and extra time beckoning, the visitors finished the stronger to register two points and advanced to the County Final on the score 1-8 to 2-3.

Final replay


The long awaited replay to the County Senior Football Final took place in Nowlan Park before a very enthusiastic attendance. Muckalee were first on the scoreboard with a pointed line ball from Colin McGrath in the first minute. Railyard soon levelled and it was point for point up to the end of normal time scorers for Muckalee were John Maher with two and Robert Shore with the assists from Bryan Byrne Mick Morrissey and Colin McGrath. In added time Railyard doubled their score hitting 1-1in two minutes putting them in a strong position at the break ,score 1-5 to 0-4. On the resumption Colin McGrath was first to point after a pass from Mick Morrissey, John Maher pointed following a foul on Brandon Sheehan. Next a second goal to Railyard increasing the lead to five points. Now it was up to Muckalee to respond to the challenge and to a man they did scoring 1-3 to regain the lead. Scorers were Colin McGrath with a penalty that gave the goalie no chance plus a pointed free , John Maher had 0-2  one free Brandon Sheehan had a big input having been taken down for the penalty and also for a free. Now with ten minutes remaining both sets of supporters were wishing their side to hold on or to make a comeback it was the defending champions that finished the stronger and win by two points. Both sides lost a player to a black card. While disappointed in the result  Muckalee Club would laud the achievement of the players in contesting seven finals in a row, and wish Railyard all the best in the Club Championship.

Well done to Noel Darcy Ollie Walsh and Robert Shore on winning the British Junior Football Championship with Kilkenny earlier this year they lost out to Mayo in the All-Ireland Junior Semi-Final

 

County Final ends all square


On a dry but blustery evening Muckalee appearing in their seventh succesive Senior Football Final faced reining Champions Railyard in Nowlan Park a repeat of last years final. It was the Champions who made the brighter opening Ronan Walsh  pointing in the second minute, Muckalee got off the mark in the eleventh with a free from Colin McGrath after a foul on Aidan Murphy. Joe Maher was next to score a point followed by two for the Railyard Sean Dowd and Philip Roche . A strong finish with three points a free from Colin McGrath when John Maher was fouled and a brace from Eoin McGrath to leave the score 0-5 to 0-3. On the resumption Cormac McDonald pointed John Maher pointed a free after he was fouled. The next two score weny to Caleb Roche a poited free and a 45 that ended in the net for the games only goal . Their was still ten minutes on the clock and a great effort earned Muckalee a draw with two pointed frees from Colin McGrath the first a foul on himself the second a foul on John Maher. In a frantic  finish both sides had chances to win but in goes to a replay. Final score 0-8 t0 1-5. Muckalee will rue the amount of wides they had during the game and the loss of Paul Maher who failed a fitness test before the game still it was a well contested and sporting game for the fans

Féile 2015


On Friday morning next our u 14s travel North to compete in the National Feile competition , representing St Martins and Kilkenny in this prestigious competition .
St Martins will be hosted by Eoghan Rua , Coleraine  and will be playing against Raharney of  Westmeath , Clooney Gaels of Tyrone on Friday , these games will be
played at Clooney Gaels about 4 miles north of Ballymena. On saturday they will play Eoghan Rua and hopefully will qualify to play for Division 3 honours.
We would like to wish our players mentors and supporters a very enjoyable weekend and wish them every success in the competition.

Away win


St. Martins Junior B had a good win against Galmoy in the League The game was played in Galmoy. Martins started well and were leading 0-11 to 0-3 at half time and ran out winners 2-15 to 2-6.
