Six up
Muckalee made it to their sixth Senior Football final in a row but not after a searching test from a determined Mooncoin side. The game was played in Ballyhale and it was Mooncoin who made most of the running in the opening half taking an early two point lead before Tom Morrissey opened Muckalee’s scoring in the tenth minute and a further point from Tom and James Maher left the half time score 0-3 to 0-5. At this stage defeat was a strong possibility in the semi final unless they upped their performance with a point from John Mulhall and two rapid fire points from James Maher had Muckalee in front in the forthy sixth minute. A goal from Brandon Sheehan in the fifty fourth minute after a fine move was the defining score of the game , Mooncoin were unable to get back into the game .John Maher and John Mulhall added further points to leave the final score was1-8 to 0-6.

J.J Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Hurling League Rd. 4 vs Graigue-Ballycallan
On a glorious Sunday afternoon in the rolling hills of Kilmanagh, a small crowd gathered to watch St. Martin’s take on locals Graigue-Ballycallan in the J.J Kavanagh & Sons Junior B hurling league. St. Martin’s were desperate to pick up their first points of this league campaign but a goal in injury time dashed all hopes of that happening. There was no separating the sides all through the first half as Graigue-Ballycallan matched points from Ronan Maher (65), Damien Tynan, Donal Shore (0-2) and Adrian Farrell with the sides level at 0-5 a piece at half time. Just like the first half, the sides were again inseparable with each side cancelling out points from the other until a last ditch effort that found its way to the back of the net to put the local side up by 2 points. John Joe Kelly shot a point just on the stroke of full time to leave the final score St. Martin’s 0-13, Graigue-Ballycallan 1-12.

On a windy but sunny day in Danesfort, St. Martin’s Junior B’s took on the locals. As the Martin’s men were heading out in the second half with the wind, they managed to double their efforts from the first half. J.J Kavanagh & Son’s Junior Hurling League Round 4 vs Tullaroan
On the 19th April, Easter Saturday evening, in Tullaroan, St. Martin’s and Tullaroan lined out for battle in the J.J Kavanagh and Sons Junior Hurling League. A small crowd had gathered to watch proceedings with referee, the youthful James Barry in charge . Shane Kinsella opened St. Martin’s account with a pointed “65”after Conor Kinsella made a good run in towards goal only for his shot to be deflected off a Tullaroan defender. Up until the 14th minute, that was St. Martin’s only score as the Tullaroan side went on the rampage early on, notching up 6 points. Shane Kinsella converted a free when Shane Coonan was fouled to leave five between the sides. The aforementioned Shane Coonan and Thomas Walsh each added points of their own before Shane Kinsella converted two more frees before the half time whistle sounded. (St.Martin’s 0-6, Tullaroan 0-11) The St. Martin’s boys were sluggish in the second half as Tullaroan had scored 1-1 within the first two and a half minutes. Once again, Shane Kinsella converted free’s whilst adding two points from play and Noel D’arcy added one to his account. However, Tullaroan kept pulling away as they were awarded a few handy frees but only scored one point from play in the second half. Most of their scores came from the stick of Tom Fitzgerald as he scored 0-12, 0-10 from free’s. St. Martin’s will be grateful that Tullaroan missed three goal chances but a lot of work remains to be done.Full time score: St. Martin’s 0-11, Tullaroan 1-17

Good Friday for footballers
Muckalee and St, Patricks Ballyraggett was the novel paring in this quarteg final clash played in Lisdowney. On an evening taken from summertime the sides served up a good game and it was last years Intermediate winners that took to game to the title holders racing into a two point lead. James Maher got Muckalee off the mark in the sixth minute and two Colin McGrath points had his side in front after the first quarter. Shane Coonan was unlucky with an effort crashing off the cross bar and Colin McGrath had four more points to leave the half time score 0-7 to 0-4. Ballyraggett were first on the scoreboard on the resumption with a point to leave just two between the sides but a Paddy Nolan score steadied the nerves, a black card for a Muckalee player was closely followed by a point blank save by John Coonan had it gone it would have levelled the game. The colour of the next card was a red for a Ballyraggett player and with Colin landing three points and Brandon Sheehan a second black card replacement landing the final score to leave the result 0-12 to 0-5 . Muckalee will be glad to make the semis but still have lots of work to do .

St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling League Rd.1
St. Martin’s opened their league campaign against O’Loughlin Gaels in a splendid Canon Kearns Park this afternoon. John Maher started proceedings for St. Martin’s with a pointed free in the second minute. Then, O’Loughlin Gaels kicked into action with points from Mark Bergin and Sammy Johnston. Eoin McGrath slotted a lovely pass from Canice Maher over the bar before setting Thomas Breen up for a point of his own. Mark Bergin pointed a free awarded to his side to draw the sides level for the only time in the game. Once again, Eoin McGrath stepped up to the mark to put Martin’s ahead when he fielded a pass from the towering Brian Mulhall. (0-4 to O’Loughlin’s 0-3) Alas, that was to be St. Martin’s final score for the half as the city side pulled away with a further 1-3 before the whistle sounded for half time. (HT: O’Loughlin Gaels 1-6 St. Martin’s 0-4). In the second half, things did not improve for the country side. With the O’Loughlin Gaels side upping their work rate and finding the posts better than their opponents, John Maher tried keeping his side in touch scoring 3 points from free’s and a 65. Meanwhile, O’Loughlin’s were tipping away extending their lead, particularly with a goal from John Doyle. (O’Loughlin’s 2-10, St. Martin’s 0-8) John Mulhall added two points while Eoin McGrath fielded a pass from James Maher to further add to his tally. David Breen goaled to leave 5 points the difference at full time as O’Loughlin Gaels claim their first two points of the league while St. Martin’s must look deeper to get their league back to winning ways. On a lovely evening, when Spring had finally seemed to arrive in Coon, a weakened St. Martin’s were no match for a sharp O’Loughlin Gaels side.
