U10 trip to Leinster Final
The U10 panel had a great day in Dublin last Sunday. The lads battled hard against a much physically stronger Crumlin side but unfortunately their efforts were in vain as the wind and a heavy shower prevented them from reducing the half time arrears. Afterwards, Crumlin provided plenty of refreshments for the players and much needed tea and sandwiches for the mentors and supporters. Afterwards, we filled the bus with members of the Crumlin club who were looking for a lift to Croke Park. As you can imagine there was much banter between our lads and the Dubs ! We look forward to entertaining the Crumlin lads later in the year.
Thankfully, the sun shone for the remainder of the day and the lads had a great time in Croke Park celebrating the double Kilkenny victory. There was an especially loud cheer from Conor Mulhall and his team mates when John was brought on. A quick stop in McDonalds in Naas on the way home completed the day and we arrived home in Coon and Muckalee at 9pm…..only for the lads to escape onto the pitch in Muckalee to start hurling again ! Long may it continue !!!
U8’s great victory in Croke Park
St. Martins U8 hurlers recorded a great victory in Croke Park yesterday against Marshalstown of Wexford in the Leinster “Play & Stay” hurling blitz. In a powerful performance by our lads, we had two great goalkeepers in Russell Kealy and Tommy Flynn, some heroic defenders in Jack Farrell (Captain), Shane Fahey, Shane O’Neill, Tristan Roche, Matthew Shortall and Lorcan Agar and some superb forwards in Cillian Bryan, Joseph Reid, Bill Dowling, Thomas Lawler, Oisin Kelly and Aaron Meaney. It was a very close game with both sides giving it their all in front of a packed stadium with St. Martins just edging out our Wexford neighbours by a score of 4 goals to 3 goals in a nail biting finish on a perfect day for ground hurling. Our lads enjoyed a great day, togging out in the dressing rooms, warming up in the warm up area, running out through the tunnel, playing the match on the pitch and afterwards they climbed the Hogan Stand steps to receive the cup. The trip finished with a game of football and some refreshments in the Phoenix Park. A truly memorable day was had by all.
U-11s do us proud at 12 aside Blitz.
The Under-11 team recently took part in a 12 a side blitz hosted by St. Patrick’s Ballyragget. They played three games against James Stephen’s B, Lisdowney and the hosts, Ballyragget.
They played very well in all three matches, winning them all, with some excellent goals and points scored.
Rather than nominate one player, all players deserve equal credit for excellent team displays in all three matches, particularly against Lisdowney where they had to come from behind to win.
Well done to all.
