Minors land John Ryan Memorial Tournament


St Martins produced a fine second half display to gain the 2013 John Ryan Memorial Tournament

Danesfort had the better of the early exchanges and led by the end of the first quarter 0-3 to 0-1.

But the home side goaled to take a lead they never relinquished and were 1-8 to 0-7 ahead at half time.

St Martins emptied the bench in the final quarter and the fresh legs worked a treat as they managed to pull clear in the final stages of the match. Final score,  St Martins 2-15 0-12 Danesfort

Anna Ryan presented the impressive trophy after the match to winning Captain Shane Kinsella.

Minors gain win in the sun


With the return of a number players from injury St Martins gained their first win of the year when they defeated Clara.

The game was played in sweltering conditions and was tied after the first ten minutes 0-2 a piece.

A goal after 15 minutes was followed by a couple of pints on the trot which set ‘Martins up nicely at half time to lead 1-8 to 0-6.

Clara hit a goal from a ’21 and the game tightened as a result but the young Saints made better use of their scoring chances to win 2-12 to 1-9.

Credit to both sides for playing in such extreme conditions.

The U16 and Minor panels are back in full swing at training this week after the hard slog of the exams has passed. There continues to be a great turn out for all sessions with the craic and banter as strong as ever. Keep up the great work.

Bennettsbridge were our opponents in our first home game of the year with both team on top in defence scores were hard to get we went in at half time 1, 6 to 1, 3 ahead with a different attitude for the second half the players created and got some good team scores to win on a score of st martins 3:17 Bennettsbridge 1:4

St.Martins Minors loose out in first league match.


St Martins minor lost out in the first league match of the year where mistakes and a slice of misfortune went against.
The first half was a ding dong battle with it finishing level 0-8 apiece. Danesfort began the second half the brighter opening up a seven point margin before St Martins had whittled the deficit down to two points.
A young Saints side then made a couple of mistakes whilst chasing the game which ultimately proved costly.

Minor Footballers bow out of League


 

St Martins bowed out of the Minor Football League where the early concession of goals in both halves proved very costly. Missing over ten players due to injury & county commitments they found themselves 1-2 to no score down after 7 minutes but they rallied back to 1-4 to 0-3 before St Fiacres struck another 1-2 to leave it 2-6 to 0-4 at the break.

Another early St Fiacres goal put them 3-8 to 0-4 clear but Martins fought back getting three goals and two points but they ran out of steam towards the end and time.

Minors loose in Semi final stage.


St Martin Minor Hurlers lost to Glenmore in the County Semi Final in Bennetsbridge last Saturday 29th September. In fairness they were a much older and stronger team.
St Martins never gave up in difficult circumstances but can look back at a year of progress despite the loss and can look forward to the minor football league final as some consolation.

Minors Move into County Semi Final


St Martins reached the Minor B County Semi Final for the first time since 2009 with a fine first half display that set them on their way to victory leading by 3-6 to 0-4 at the break.
The second half was a more even game which the young saints also won & they now face the favourites for the County Final Glenmore in the next match on Sat 29th September. Final score St Martins 3-14 0-6 Mullinavat.

Minors Triumph


St Martins Minors are through to the quarter final of the championship after a fine win in Ballyragget.
Martins got off to a flyer leading by 0-10 to 0-3 as the game headed towards the end of the first half but they then conceded a goal.
Soon after the young Saints foaled themselves to leave it 1-11 to 1-4 at the break.
Despite playing against the breeze in the second half Martins actually won the half. Final score, St Martins 2-18 1-13 Galmoy/Windgap
