Juniors come up short

St Martins Junior’s made the trip to Larchfield to take on James Stephens in the Junior Hurling League but lost out by three after a well contested game. Senior Hurlers off to a winning start

St Martin’s faced Tullaroan in the first round of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling League.  Played in St. John’s Park in winter like conditions, it was Tullaroan who first got off the mark with a point from Ken Coogan within 30 seconds of the start, followed by another point before St. Martin’s got on the scoreboard with John Maher pointing a free won by Brian Mulhall.  St. Martin’s powered on adding further points from John Maher, John Mulhall, Robert Shore and Brian Mulhall leaving the half time score 0-8 each.  On the restart, St. Martin’s continued to forge ahead and had established a 13 point to 10 lead when they were rocked back by a goal for Tullaroan from a 20 metre free.  However, John Maher converted a 65 and Colin McGrath added a huge point from his own half to go 2 points up.  Tullaroan tried hard and in the last minute, had the ball cleared from the goal line and St. Martin’s held on for a 2 point win.  Colin McGrath made some great saves and Ollie Walsh, James Maher, Byran Byrne and John Mulhall gave a good account of themselves.  Shane Kinsella who made his senior debut came on and showed some nice touches. Well done to team and management on a hard earned victory.  Final score: St. Martin’s 0-15 Tullaroan 1-10.

Goals make the differance

Muckalee qualified for their fifth Senior County final in a row and their ability to take their goal chances the differance between the sides. On a difficult evening for football with strong winds and driving rain it was Muckalee who had the opening score a goal from Colin McGrath who finished well with the assist from Shane Coonan . Both sides had some well worked points to leave it 1-4 to 0-2 at half-time. Glenmore piled on the preassure  in the second half but two further goals from Colin McGrath and Michael Morrissey , Colins came from a penalty after Robert Shore had been fouled the other was a good counter attack that passed through many hands and ended  Shane Coonan off loading to Michael. The final score was 3-6 to 0-6 with the final opponents city side James Stephens.

Good start

St. Martins Junior hurlers made a good start in the all County Junior Hurling with a home win against Piltown in Muckalee. Despite the bitterly cold day the standard of the hurling was good from both sides . The half time score was 2-9 to 0-3  .The Martins goals came from Kieran Kelly who took a pin point pass from Captain Pauric Haughney ,the second was from David Breen who reacted quickest to a breaking ball off the upright. Piltown goals came late on in the game to leave the final score 2-16 to 2-9. Well done on good performances to Minor Hurlers Jason Shore, Shane Kinsella ,and Donal Shore playing their games in Junior Hurling.
