Muckalee Football Club have appointed a new manager to replace Tom Cullen the former Carlow and Leinster player who stepped down after four very succesfull years at the helm. Former Mayo footballer Ronan Ruane is set to guide the fortunes of the Club teams in the coming year ,we wish him and all the selectors well.

The big crowd that travelled to Palmerstown for the 2012 Kilkenny Senior Football Championship got a exhibition of all that is good about football when it is played with skill, heart and determination, from two well prepared sides. Mullinavat were first to show their hand with two early points and Muckalee got off the mark in the tenth minute with a point from John Mulhall after a John Maher pass. Colin McGrath added another from play finishing a move started by Michael Morrissey in the half back line. The only goal of the game was set up by a Paul Maher pass to John Mulhall who made good ground and set up Bryan Byrne who finished well. Captain Shane Coonan fisted a point after a good through ball from Brian Byrne.Tom Morrissey put Colin McGrath for another point from play and two fine frees from Colin and John Maher left the half time score 1-7 to-0-3.The game was far from over at this stage as Mullinavat took a grip on the match only some sterling defending by the full back line of Canice ,Oliver and Aidan who got great cover from Michael Patrick and Martin in a solid half back that were not afraid to attack . When this sextet was breached two mighty saves from John Coonan when the game was in the melting pot were crucial. Robert Shore scored Muchalee’s first point in the twentieth minute after a pass from Joe Maher that proved to be very important as Muckalee finished strongly with further points from Robert who took a pass from Canice Maher after a strong run out of the defence and a pointed side line kick from John Maher. Joe Maher James Maher and Fionn Lawlor did well when called upon. Mullinivat were beaten but can be very proud of their part in well contested final.History was made with Muckalee completing their first ever three in a row to add to the League won earlier in the year .Manager Tom Cullen and his selectors Martin Dowd and Club Chairman Larry Maher can be veryproud of their acvhievment’s after their four years in charge reaching four finals which goes to prove you have to loose one to win three . County Board Chairman Tom Brennan congratulated both teams for their skill and sportsmanship and Muckalee for winning the treble . Captain Shane Coonan thanked all the present and past players who contributed to the historic win and the hard working management team plus all club members who helped in any way.Final score 1-10 to 0-7.

Muckalee Senior Footballers qualified for their fourth county final in a row when they defeated Mooncoin in the Semi-final. Muckalee started well and were leading at half time 0-5 to 0-1. Goals were the highlight of the second half with four being scored, the first was a penalty converted by Colin McGrath after Robert Shore was fouled and Mooncoin scored a penalty and two from play to set up tight finish in Thomastown , final score 1-9 to 3-1.

Muckalee ‘s Senior Footballers advanced to the County semi-final after a hard fought victory over a hard trying Kilmogannny side. Scores were hard to come by early on in the game with the opening score coming after twelve minutes, a pointed free from Colin McGrath and Muckalee went on to lead 0-8 to 0-2 at half time. Kilmoganny went on to dominate the early exchanges of the second but the Muckalee defence held firm and added two fine goals.The first goal came from raiding wing back Mick Morrissey after a pass from Fionn Lawlor who had replaced the injured Robert Shore,the second came from Bryan Byrne after being put through by Colin McGrath. Kilmoganny scored their goal with time running out to leave the final score 2-12 to 1-6 in favour of the Champions of last year.

Muckalee and Railyard contested the Senior League for 2012 in Muckalee pitch on Thursday 12 April. In a well contested match the first half left the score at 0-6 to 0-5 , with the Railyard coming back from a slow start to leave the minimum between the sides at the break. Muckalee upped their game on the resumption and got some fine scores after good team play and finishing. Great credit to the lads for going through the League unbeaten and coping with injuries for the final as the did in last years County Final.County Board Chairman Tom Brennan presented the Trophy to Captain Shane Coonan and complemented both sides on the standard of football played. Result 0-14 to 0-7.

In the last of the Senior Football League group two it was the clash of last years Champions of the Senior and Intermediate grades. Conahy made the short trip on Good Friday evening to Muckalee and it was the home side that took the honours after a competive game. Muckalee were two points up at the break after Conahy had impressed early on. Final score 4-13 to 3-6

O Loughlin Gaels were the visitors to Muckalee for the fourth round the senior football League, the home side raced into an early lead 0-6 ,O Loughlin Gaels replied with five unanswered to get right back into the game. Muckalee finished out the half stroinger to lead at the break 0-8 to 0-5.After a well contested second muckalee ran out winners 0-14 to 1-8.
