Victory over Boro in Palmerstown


St. Martins had a victory over Dicksboro in the third round of the Aylward Cup. Played on the longest day of 2011 the evening cleared up well after a downpours earlier.After an even first half, two late goals gave Martins a lead of 2-10 to 0-8 at the break .  Dicksboro added 1-7 in the second half as did Martins . Final score 3-17 to 1-15.

U10 win Shield final in Portlaoise


St Martins U10s played in a Hurling blitz in Portlaoise on Saturday June 18th.  They played Ballyfin and John Locks first and then went on to meet Portlaoise in the shield final which they won.  A enjoyable day was had by everyone.

St Martins U 11s played in the M&A blitz in Ballyragget  on Saturday June 18th Although the weather was not  good  a great day was had by all.

Centra winners enjoy day with Henry and John


10 local kids enjoyed coaching tips from Henry Shefflin and John Mullane in Nowlan park on Saturday. It was part of the Centra hurling Skills tour. A good time was had by everyone.

Neighbours meet


Cloneen made the short trip to Coon to take on St Martins in the all County League fixture. On a lovely evening for a match is was the visitors who shaded the first half leading 0-6 to 0-5.Martins came more into the game in the second to run out winners 0-13 to 0-10.

St. Martin's U14 V Danesfort in Danesfort

On Tuesday 14th June after playing into a very strong wind in the first half St. Martin’s found themselves 2-5 to no score after 20 minutes before we got off the mark with a well taken goal and two more points followed to leave the half time score with Danesfort leading 2-5 to 1-2.

After some hard work they reduced the lead to 2 points with 5 minutes to go but loosing in the end with a final score line of Danesfort 2-10, St. Martin’s 1-9.

Martins top town


St Martins are Northern Junior A League champions for 2011. They came out on top against Carlow Town  hurling club in a well contested game in Nowlan Park.Brian Malone was first to score in the sixth minute put Carlow replied with two of their own .Stephen Murphy was accurate from frees and Kieran Kelly levelled matters when he made a great run from  midfield to point after twenty minutes. Damien Tynan had to leave the game injured and was replaced by Dermot Lalor after twenty five minutes.Tom Morrissey added a fine point coming up to the break ,but it was Carlow who then got the only goal from a twenty metre free to lead at half time 0-7 to 1-6. Brian Malone once again had Martins first score of the second after a pass from Tom Morrissey.Stephen Murphy was now pointing  from all  angles from play and frees and with Dermot Lalor ,Kieran Kelly, and Tom Morrissey all adding points Martins were well on their way to victory.Our defence and midfielders upped their game and kept a constant supply of quality ball to the attack to set up the victory of 0-19 to 1-11 . Captain Nicholas Purcell thanked the Selectors and wished Brian Malone well as he leaves for Australia during the week.Team

Aylward cup win


St Martins opened the defence of the Aylward Cup with a home game in Coon.The opening half was well contested with two goals by Martins the big scores of the first half, 2-5 to 0-6. The Rower/Inistioge could not keep up the same effort in the second half and Martins pulled away to record a good win.

St Martins Under 10s played their final go game in Nowlan park on Saturday.  A great day was had by all and the players all enjoyed the expierence.

U14 Hurlers up their game for James Stephens


Sunday 5th June saw St. Martin’s U14s take on The Village in Coon in a league thriller. This promised to be a tough encounter and it live up to expectations. St. Martin’s got off to a great start with an early goal and slowly extended their lead with quality points. The game was fought in every position will all playing to their best. At half time St. Martin’s were a goal ahead.

The second half saw some tough challenges but St. Martin’s held their ground and saw off challenge after challenge to finish up strong winners with a final score of 4-6 to 1 -5. Well done again.
