St Martin’s Intermediate’s Successful Opening Win
St Martin’s kicked off their 2019 Intermediate league campaign with a good win over Young Irelands Gowran in sunny Palmerstown on Saturday afternoon. Shane Kinsella put us in front with a free in the 2nd minute followed by a John Maher point from play. Young Irelands then hit back to draw level and then move ahead. The first half was a tense enough affair but Martin’s had a good spread of scorers with some good points taken by Jason, Mick, Tom, Luke and Colin. Gowran were very reliant on the dangerous Paul Holden and Sean Carey. Half time score was 0-12 to 0-09 to St Martin’s. Young Ireland got the first score of the second half but Martin’s hit back with the next 4 points by Joe, Colin, John and Brian. This proved to the difference and we managed to maintain our lead for the remainder of the game. Score at full time was 0-21 to 0-16. St Martin’s featured a number of young players making their debut at this level and all of them acquitted themselves very well.
