Good win for Martin’s.
The long awaited 4th round of the Senior Hurling League took place this evening in Canon Kearns Park as St. Martin’s clashed with James Stephen’s. In what promised to be a cracker of a game it certainly did not disappoint. It was James Stephen’s who rushed ahead going 3 points to 1 up before Paddy Nolan raced up the field and laid off a nice pass to John Maher, who in turn found Eoin McGrath who coolly finished the ball to the net. Once again, the city side hit back to regain their lead but with points from John Maher, Joe Maher, Tom Breen, and Brian Mulhall, Martin’s were never going to let them get too far ahead and it was level pegging at 1-9 to James Stephen’s 0-12 at half time. John Maher and Eoin Larkin exchanged scores from frees early in the second half. Robert Shore won a dropping ball and ran towards goal finishing it beautifully to the back of the net. It was now the village who were chasing the game and with Brian Mulhall causing problem’s for the James Stephen’s back line,they were feeling the pressure hitting 4 wides in quick succession. Colin McGrath pulled off a great save when David Walton look certain to goal. A John Maher 65 and point from play after a pass from Brian Mulhall kept the scoreboard ticking over. St. Martin’s weren’t finished yet as Robert Shore’s one handed flick found the back of the net insured their second win of the league. They now face Fenian’s of Johnstown in the 5th and final round of the league.
