St. Martin’s Hurling Club AGM
St. Martin’s Hurling Club held their AGM in Coon Hall last night (Friday 17th) with a good attendance. Secretary Breda Tynan opened the meeting by reading the minutes from the previous year’s AGM. Outgoing Chairperson Richard O’Shea thanked everyone for attending. He said it was a good year in that our senior team got to the County Semi-Final and he hoped we could go further this year. He thanked everyone in the club who helped out throughout the year and praised the good work being done at under-age level. He congratulated Muckalee Football Club on winning 4 in a row and wished them well in their quest for 5 in a row. As he was outgoing Chairperson, he thanked his family and all those who helped and supported him the last 5 years and wished incoming Chairperson John Ryan all the best in his new role. Secretary Breda Tynan then gave her report with a run down of all the action in the different grades. She extended sympathies to all who were bereaved during the year. She gave a brief synopsis of club development and thanked everyone for their help. Treasurer Dermot Lawlor gave a detailed report of the club finances. He said that the member’s draw was our main income and we should encourage more to come on board. Guest speakers on the night included Bord na N-óg Chairperson Patrick O’Flynn and Muckalee Football Club Vice Chairperson Richard Nolan.

St. Martins Minor footballers struggle in County final.
St Martins were beaten in the Football County final in Bennetsbridge where a two goal blast early in the second proved to be their undoing
Against a team with many playing their football in good counsel ‘Martins were under pressure with many of the side having played a u-16 final only a few days earlier whilst they also had to deal with the absence of Donal Shore through injury.
Patrick Brennan scored St Martins first point but Tullogher were quickly ahead 0-2 to 0-1. Mark Dowling levelled matters but it was at this stage Tullogher made a burst going 0-4 to 0-2 ahead. Brandon Sheehan pointed before Shane Dowling booted St Martins into the lead by waving a green flag.
It was all level by halftime 1-5 a piece but Tullogher got a sweet start scoring 2-1 without reply. St Martins did come back into the game and wasted some scoring chances and had a penalty appeal turned. But it was just not to be their day with Tullogher adding four points late on to seal victory.

U16 team shine under lights in Football County Final
St. Martins U16 lads claimed an early Christmas present when they won the Roinn B U16 football championship under lights in Muckalee. Playing against a strong wind in the first half Emeralds were first to score with a point from play after eight minutes. St. Martins forwards created some good chances and eventually got a point to level matters. After a few missed efforts we goaled and added two more points to 3 pointed frees from emralds to leave half time score St. Martins 1-3 Emeralds 0-4. With the rain now falling and the wind up our lads put some serious pressure on the opposition resulting in well taken scores. The lads playing well and backing each other up around the field driving forward from the half backs the scores eventually came to close out the game on a scoreline of St. Martins 3-8 Emeralds 0-8. Congrats to all members of this panel as a lot of hard work was put in all year resulting in this hard fought win. Thanks to Muckalee football field committee for having the pitch in such good condition at this time of year.

St. Martin’s minors make the Football County final with great semi win.
St Martins Minor Footballers qualified for the football county final when they defeated a fancied St Fiacres in Coon who had defeated them well in the league.
Before the start of the game St Martins suffered a blow with the loss of Jason Shore & Donal Shore through injury.
The freshness & eagerness of the home team stood out as they raced into a 4-2 to 0-0 lead after 12minutes.
By half time they had gone further ahead with some fine inter play with the score standing at 5-5 to 0-1.
Despite facing a stiff second half breeze St Martins still won the second half by 2-2 to 1-4 & they now face Tullogher Rosbercon in the final.

U-16 Football Championship Semi Final v Rower Inistoige
After a good performance in the previous round we headed to Inistoige knowing we had every chance against a fancied Rower Inistoige side. Due to a mix up with the refferee the game started thirty minutes late. St. Martins lads kept focused and settled quickly into the game with a goal and two points on the board in the first ten minutes. The Rower added two points before we got another goal after creating a lot of chances.Rower Inistoige got a goal five minutes before half time leaving the score St. Martins 2-4 Rower Inistoige 1-2 ahead. Still all to play for our backs came under serious pressure early in the second half but held tough and with the midfield and fordwards making life hard for Rower Inistoige we added 1-5 to win on a scoreline of St. Martins 3-9 to Rower Inistoige 1-2.

U-16 Football Championship quarter final v Danesfort
After recieving a walk over in the first round against Callan, we travelled to Danesfort hoping to progress further. The lads created some good chances with good runs being made from midfield and half fordwards to go in at half time 2-3 to 0-4 ahead. Keeping the pressure on in the second half with some fine scores we ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of St. Martins 6-5 Danesfort 0-7.

Big attendance at St Martin’s Bord na n’Og AGM
A large crowd attended the St Martin’s Bord na n’Og AGM on Friday night held in the Muckalee Community Centre. Chairman Patrick O’Flynn addressed those in attendance & pointed out that despite the lack of silverware there was some tremendous work going on at under age level in the club and that the numbers attending underage training for hurling & football had swelled to in excess of 160 players which boded well for the future. He thanked all those who had helped in anyway during the year. Mr O’Flynn also congratulated Sean Kelly on being a selector with the Leinster winning Kilkenny minor team & wished Liam Dowling well with his role with the Kilkenny U-21’s.
The Chairman noted the progress of players to the senior team from this years minors which was a good sign that we are doing our job right as coaches for the future hurlers of the club. The Muckalee footballers were congratulated on winning 4 county titles and he commisserated with the senior hurlers on losing out narrowly to Clara in the championship. The minors & U-16’s were particularily unlucky losing out in heartbreaking circumstances in their championship games & the U-16’s were again unlucky in the league final. Mr O’Flynn also thanked those who’d put up trophies through out the year & our sponsors, Willie Forde (Eurospar), JS Bolger & Geoff Doyle.
He wished all well for 2014.
Secretary Michael Brennan presented his final report to the meeting which covered all the goings on of all the teams for 2013 in great detail. A few of his highlights were, the Cyril Farrell training evening, the running off of all our own underage tournaments, the huge numbers turning up at training across all age groups & the number of our players representing Kilkenny in 2013 rose markedly which for him was a sign of of the progress the club were making. Mr Brennan felt though that the club wasn’t using all it’s resources at it’s disposal fully from a coaching point of view both internally & externally. As he finished his last report he was greeted with a warm round of applause.
Michael Manning gave his treasurers report which showed the Bord was in good financial health and was again self sufficient during 2013 thanks to all the fundraising throughout the year.
Senior Chairman Richard O’Shea commended the Officers on their work and thanked them for pulling their weight in relation to their own fundraisers and the senior clubs.
Vice Football Chairman Richard Nolan reminded people that it is often the darkest just before the dawn and he felt thanks to the Bord’s work that success may not be that far away.
Under AOB it was agreed that a child welfare course in conjunction with Conor Brennan & the senior clubs would be run in 2014 which was proposed by Child Welfare Matty Kealy.
It was agreed to launch a suicide awarness programme which would be led by the senior club.
