Double outing
Muckalees Junior footballers had a double outing in the junior League first up was home game against Carrigeen on friday night , and away to Winegap on sunday. Muckalee had a victory against Carrigeen 1-13 to 1-1, and were unlucky to loose to Winegap 2-3 to 1-3 with Robert Reade making his first start for the Juniors scored a goal and another effort come back off the crossbar a fine contribution.

Home win
Muckalee picked their second win of the senior football League with a home win against Dicksboro. Scores were hard to come by in the early stages it was Bryan Byrne who pointed a 45 metre kick in the 15 minute . The half time score 0-5 to 0-2 . Dicksboro cut the lead to two points on the resumption and were well in the game but a well taken goal from Mick Morrissey got his side back on track. In total eight players scored on the night for Muckalee for whom Patrick Brennan made a fine debut. Final score 1-8 to 0-3.

First points
Muckalee travelled to Glenmore and came away with their first points of the senior football league. I was Glenmore who made the better start scoring 1-1, but Muckalee led at the break 2-8 to 1-1. The goals coming from Bryan Byrne and a penalty from John Maher. Glenmore added 0-6 on the resumption and Muckalee 1-4, the goal from Eoin Maher. Final score 3-12 to 1-7. Well done to Aidan and Damien Egan on making their debuits at senior. The next round is on 7 February in Muckalee.

Juniors loose out
Muckalee’s Junior footballers made the trip to Graignamanagh and despite having a competitive side out they were no match for the home side. Damien Tynan was the goal scorer, result 5-15 to 1-0 .

Medal Presentation
- Muckalee Football Club and St. Martin’s Hurling Club held their medal presentation this evening in Muckalee Community Centre. The u.16 football team, Senior Footballers and Senior Hurlers were all presented with their medals by local Celebrity Jim Bolger. Football Board Chairman Tom Brennan presented Man of the Match for the 2013 County Football Final to Colm McGrath. Guest speakers included Lar Maher, Tom Cullen, Patrick O’Flynn, John Ryan, Jim Bolger and Charlie Carter. Both clubs thanked Jim Bolger for his generous sponsorship for Bord na N-óg and for taking the time out of his busy schedule to attend. Also to Dick Dooley for supplying the food and Maria Murphy and Breda Maher for catering and everyone who helped in any way possible. Also in attendance was the captain of the first Senior Football winning team (in 1968), Nickey Morrissey and his brother Martin who was former Chairman/Secretary of the club. As Lar Maher said in his speech, Martin would drive from Kilkenny to Muckalee to bring a team of young lads only to be told that the match was called off as there were no mobile phones or twitter in that time! An enjoyable evening was had by all and look forward to 2014.

Juniors come up short
Muckalee fielded a blend youth and experience against Tullogher Rosbercon in the junior football league played in Muckalee. One point separated the sides at the break with the visitors leading 0-5 to 1-1, the goalscorer was Jack Dowling. Despite leveling the game after the break Muckalee went down by two points after a good performance against a strong Tullogher Rosbercon side. Tommy Quirke scored the second goal and James Callanan was unlucky when his effort came back of the woodwork. Final score 1-9 to 2-4. Debutants John Joe Kelly, Eoin Murphy,Tommy Quirke, Brandon Sheehan and Colm O Neill were all part of the u16 Football championship winners last year .Shane Dowling was another making his debut at this level, well done to all.

St. Martin’s/Muckalee 6KM Fun Run
St. Martin’s/Muckalee rescheduled fun run took place today. A good field of runners and walkers took to the roads despite the inclement January weather. Both clubs would like to thank everyone who made the event a success, particularly sponsors Richard O’Shea and Gerry O’Brien Butchers for sponsoring the race trophies and also to CDS Architectural Metalwork for sponsoring wristbands for every participant. Late winner
In the first round of the senior football league Mooncoin were the visitors to Muckalee to take on the locals. On a blustery cold day it was Mooncoin who started well and took a two point lead ,Robert Shore opened the scoring for Muckalee and two further points from Michael Morrissey and a pointed free from Robert gave the home side a slender advantage at the break 0-4 to 0-3. A Bryan Byrne goal ten minutes into the second half looked to have put Muckalee on course for victory but a wind assisted Mooncoin side never gave up and they scored a late goal in injury time to claim the points. Five players made their debuts at this level Conor Kinsella, Adrian Farrell, Jack Dowling, Brandon Sheehan and Richard Teehan , all doing well. Final score 1-5 to 1-6.

Football AGM 2014
The AGM Muckalee Football Club was held on the 10 of January 2014 in the Community Centre. Chairman Larry Maher in his address reflected on another fantastic year for the club with the senior team repeating the senior and league county double and in the process winning a record breaking fourth county final in a row. Manager Martin Dowd and fellow selectors Ronan Ruane and Pauric Keegan were also thanked for their efforts . Secretary Paddy Tynan gave a full report of club activities both on and off the field and treasure Patsy Murphy gave an audited account of club finances. The chairman also noted the contribution of his fellow officers, committee members, selectors,fas workers, Bord na nOg on winning the U16 and contesting the u18 football county finals. Main sponsor Jim Bolger was thanked for his continued support. Sympathies were expressed to all families who suffered bereavements during the year. . Richard O Shea addressed the meeting on behalf of St Martins hurling club and congratulated the club on winning their fourth senior championship in a row, and was optimistic that the two clubs could better their achievements of 2013 and his were remarks endorsed by Patrick O Flynn Bord na nOg Chairman.
