U14 Hurlers struggle against Lisdowney


Tuesday night 24th April saw St. Martin’s U-14 squad travel to Lisdowney to take on their side in the Leaque game. The game almost failed to start with a refree misunderstanding however in fairness to Lisdowney a local ref was allerted and he duly stood in to accomadate the kids.

Lisdowney proved to be the stronger sides with scores being picked off in great style and they dominated in all areas of the field. St. Martin’s never gave up and the fought till the bitter end and showed the type of spirit that is alive and well in St. Martins.

U14 footballers take on Castlecomer


Muckalee was the venue and Saturday evening 31st March was the date when St. Martin’s U14 Football team went head to head with Castlecomer in the Football League.

With a massively depleted squad St. Martin’s went into battle but against their neighbours and friends but Comer proved too strong for our young team. The first half was dominated by Castlecomer with some fine scores being landed on our Boys but St. Martin’s lads bounced back in a thrilling second half but it was too little too late. Comer ran out easy winners in the end.

U14 footballers travel to Urlingford.


Sunday morning 18th March St. Martins U14 football squad travelled to Urlingford to take on League Leaders The Emeralds on their home turf.

This was never going to be easy and St. Martins struggled to find their form for the first 30 minutes and went in loosing 2-5 to only 2 points at the break. After some changes and a lively discussion at half time St. Martins Men came out fighting and put their mark on the game immediately with score after score and came within 3 points with minutes to go. They hit the cross bar aswell as missing a few crusial point opportunities but they battled to the end and finished up loosing out to the stronger Emerals with a final score of 2-7 to 2-4.

U14 Footballers display great heart!


Sunday 11th March St. Martin’s U14 Football squad travelled to Tullogeher Rosbercon’s home venue to play their U14 squad in the League.

St.Martin’s were hit by injuries and other obstacles which made making a  squad a big challenge indeed. However they made a squad and a very determinded squad it turned out to be.

From the word go they fought for every ball on the pitch and off the pitch. Spirits were high and the determination each member showed was amazing. They were leading by 4 points and half time and following some badly needed hydration at they came out for the second half as strong as ever. A great performance from the whole team and finished up winning with a final score of 2-6 to  1-1.

U14 footballers begin their League Campaign


Monday night 20th February saw our U14 football team begin their League campaign when the met with St. Fiacres under lights in Muckalee.

The game was well fought but our lads  were on the trail from early on with but they never gave up and actually were with 2 points at half time.

The second half began in a similar fashion but St. Martin’s Men dug deep and found new life in the last 15 minutes after trailing for most of the game they came back to level the game with a final score of 2-5 each.

U 14 Presentation Night

A Big thank you to all involved in organising this event.  It was great to see so many people turn out.  The boys were delighted to receive their medals from Brian Cody. Also present on the night was County Board chairman Paul Kinsella, John Mulhall who was part of the Kilkenny team, Fr Wallace and Fr Delaney.

Game; Duggan Steel hurling Championship County Final against The Emerals.

After 56 training sessions, dozens of broken hurls, scores of lost sliothars, winning game after game the final eventually came to St. Martin’s Under 14 squad. The Emeralds were not going to be easy and all precautions and preparations were taken seriously for this contest.

The game began with great defensive play from both sides with the first score taking over ten minutes to register. On the fifteenth minute St. Martin’s were dissalowed a goal and hit the woodwork on more than one occasion.  Scores were matched on both sides with St. Martin’s leading at half time by only 4 pints.  After the break St. Martin’s Lads moved up a gear and took and made all the opportunuties and ran out strong winners with a final score of 3-15 to 2-4.

St. Martin’s U14 face Dunamaggin in Championship Semi Final


Date; Sunday 18th September Venue; Clara Gaa Grounds  Occasion; Championship Semi Final.

This game was always going to be a cracker. Two evenly placed sides got right down to action from the word go. The game went 15 minutes before a score was registered and nothing divided the teams at half time. The second half continued in the same vane with no quarters given by both sides but St. Martin’s lads battled hard and kepth their heads under emense pressure and it all paid off in the end with St. Martins winning with a final score of 1-7 to 6 pints.

St. Martin’s Lads now face The Emerals in the County Final.

U14s travel to Comer for Championship Quarter Final


Wednesday evening 14th September St. Martin’s U14s took on O’Loughlin Gaels in the Championship Quarter Final. The sides had met before so St. Martin’s had prepared well for this game.

From the throw in St. Martin’s Lads took control of the game in all areas. Once the first 15 minutes had passed they had found their form and led at half time.

During the second half St. Martin’s continued to dominate and went on the win easy with a final score of 6-18 to 2-2.

U14 Hurlers continue their training for Championship glory.


St. Martin’s U14 hurlers took on Tullaroan in a challenge game under lights in Muckalee Friday night 2nd September. The game was an opportunuty to try out different formats, positions and players and it proved a great success in the end. Tullaroan being a Roinn B team  was always going to be a challenge.

St. Martin’s found it very difficult to find the target and left many good scoring chances behind them in the first half however after some talking and changing things around at the break St. Martin’s lads came out on fire and finished out winners with a final score of 3-6 to 1-6.
