U8 Enjoy Football Blitz in Railyard
U8 Football Blitz
St. Martin’s U8’s played in their first football match on Saturday 17th of September in the Railyard blitz. In the first game against Killishin/Crettyard the lads had a slow start, but in the second half they played very well and showed great commitment to get back into the game and were only narrowly beaten in the end. In the second game against The Railyard the lads continued improving and got some great scores, St. Martin’s ran out deserving winners.
After the games The Railyard club treated everyone to tea and sandwiches in the club house and presented the players with medals, crisps and drinks. Everyone enjoyed the morning in Moneenroe and the players can be very happy with their display in their first football games.
Players; Russell Kealy, Oisin Kelly, Lorcan Agar, Aaron Meany, Tommy Flynn, Aidan Kelly, Conor Egan, Kyle Walsh, Rory Buggy, Conor Murphy, Cillian Dowling, Ross Dowling, Ciaran Nolan, Tadgh Gill, Cathal Keegan, Ciaran Rice, Niall Shore and Tommy Dooley.
U8’s great victory in Croke Park
St. Martins U8 hurlers recorded a great victory in Croke Park yesterday against Marshalstown of Wexford in the Leinster “Play & Stay” hurling blitz. In a powerful performance by our lads, we had two great goalkeepers in Russell Kealy and Tommy Flynn, some heroic defenders in Jack Farrell (Captain), Shane Fahey, Shane O’Neill, Tristan Roche, Matthew Shortall and Lorcan Agar and some superb forwards in Cillian Bryan, Joseph Reid, Bill Dowling, Thomas Lawler, Oisin Kelly and Aaron Meaney. It was a very close game with both sides giving it their all in front of a packed stadium with St. Martins just edging out our Wexford neighbours by a score of 4 goals to 3 goals in a nail biting finish on a perfect day for ground hurling. Our lads enjoyed a great day, togging out in the dressing rooms, warming up in the warm up area, running out through the tunnel, playing the match on the pitch and afterwards they climbed the Hogan Stand steps to receive the cup. The trip finished with a game of football and some refreshments in the Phoenix Park. A truly memorable day was had by all.
