Come out and support St. Martin’s Minors

St. Martin’s minors are taking on Graigue Ballycallan in the Minor County Semi final on Saturday 8th November in Clara at 1pm.

Let’s get behind your minors.

St. Martin’s Minors progress to Semi Final

St Martins qualified for the Minor B hurling Semi Final with a win over near neighbours Clara in a tight game at Johns Park.

St Martins ability to get goals proved to be the difference with custodian Jason Shore pulling super saves to keep Clara at bay.

Martins got to the break 2-7 to 1-5 ahead after playing with the elements.

The cushion proved to be enough and they held onto to win to avenge last years extra time loss to the same opponents.

Final score; St Martins 3-9 1-9 Clara

St Martins: Jason Shore, Loughlin Hogan, Brian Cody, Paddy Heffernan, Steven Walsh, David Walsh, John Joe Kelly, Eoin Murphy, Robert Reid, Finn Dowling, Mark Dowling, Shane Dowling, Mark Cody, Conor Dowling, Brandon Sheehan.

U12 hurlers bring the curtain down on a busy year

St Martins Under 12 contested the finals of the Jim Comerford tournament in Conahy recently. Earlier round victories over Mullinavat, Conahy and Lisdowney insured a semi-final against great rivals O Loughlins.  After a hard fought and high quality game the City team and eventual winners, emerged victorious.  While disappointed the whole panel gained invaluable experience playing at this level and will no doubt stand to them in the future.

St. Martins Under 12 brought down the curtain on a very busy year with a three game blitz in Danesfort last Saturday. Three games V Dicksboro, Young Irelands and Glenmore provided a large attendance with a great mornings hurling.  All panel members gave their all and an outstanding attitude allied with some great performances insured the year ended on a bright note.  Great credit to the players who provided great entertainment not only last Saturday but throughout the whole year.  Well done lads.

Thanks to Sean Kelly for bringing the All-Ireland and Leinster Minor trophies to training in Muckalee last Thursday evening. Great excitement ensued with all the lads getting a chance to see the trophies and get photos taken.

U16 league semi final

St Martins took the long trip to Glenmore for this semi-final. With ideal weather conditions both teams traded early points and a goal before half time left the score St Martins 1-7 to Glenmore 10 points. Second half started in the same fashion with point for point on the scoreboard with never more than 2 points in it at any time. St Martins goaled again to go ahead with ten minutes remaining but three pointed frees gave Glenmore a win on a score of 19pts to 2-11. Well done to all players on a big effort.

Great squad for U12 Go Games.

St. Martins Under 12 panel completed their go-games fixtures in Erins Own (Castlecomer) last Saturday with two excellent displays against the home team and St.Patricks (Ballyragget).  With a great turnout of 26 players including 4 Under 10’s we fielded two teams and after two absorbing clashes emerged victorious in both games.  Great credit to the players who showed great qualities of skill, determination and teamwork not only today but all through the year.  A big thank-you to all the parents for all their efforts and a mention must go to Tom Shore who repairs the lads hurls and who does such a great job on them.  The lads were presented with medals by fellow clubman Sean Kelly to round off a great mornings hurling.

Minors hang in for draw in League Semi final

A number of wides cost St Martins as they were unlucky to draw in this Minor League semi final.

Having played against the breeze the Saints would have being confident of turning things around trailing 0-6 to 0-4 at the break.

Instead Dunamaggin gained a 0-8 to 0-6 lead in the middle of the second half where ‘Martins shooting was an issue.

A number of switches saw St Martins take the lead which they held until the dying embers of the game when Dunamaggin fired over a disputed free.

Unfortunately the young saints were to suffer a further blow when Shane Dowlings injuries suffered on the field proved to be far more serious after being taken off.

Final score; St Martins 0-11 0-11 Dunamaggin

Team: Jason Shore, Loughlin Hogan, Richard Teehan, Eoin Murphy, Conor Dowling, David Walsh (Capt), Steven Walsh, Brian Cody, Brandon Sheehan, William Trousdell, Robert Reid, Colm O’Neill, Shane Dowling, Tommy Quirke,  Mark Cody.

Subs: John Joe Kelly, Sean Maher, Jack Nolan (Used), Aidan Egan, Diarmuid Murtagh, Ronan Tynan, Ciaran Cody, Ciaran Brennan.
