St.Martins played their first  match in the Junior Hurling League against Tullaroan .Played in Muckalee it was the visitors who emerged victorious after a well contested game with never only a point or two between the sides. St. Martins trailed at the break     1-6 to 1-7.  Martins goal was scored by Pauric Haughney who finisher well after a good pass from Tom Morrissey. Brian Byrne  was in great shooting form converting frees from  all angles . Final score 2-11 to 1-12.

First Points


St. Martins picked up their first points of the Senior League with a convincing win over Fenians of Johnstown. Played in Conahy Shamrocks newly devoleped grounds in Jenkinstown, Martins had to deal with a few early setbacks when reduced to fourteen men  and a bad injury to sterling defender James Dowling . After these setbacks the team played some good hurling with John Maher  punishing frees conceded   by the Fenians defence . The only goal of the game came before the break when Eoin McGrath  set up John Maher who finished well to give Martins a lead of 1-9 to 0-1.The weather conditions worsened in the second half with severe winds both sides finding it hard to convert chances ,  still management will be fairly happy with the team work and commitment shown by the lads on the night. Final score 1-16 to 0-3.

Junior A defeat


St.Martins Junior a lost out to a strong St. Lactains side. The visitors to Coon did most of their scoring in the first half to lead at the break 3-8 to 0-3.Full time score 3-14 to 0-9.

All County Junior loss


A strong finish from the home side Fenians meant they  collected the points in this All County League group game . The sides were level at the break six points each . Martins played the second half with fourteen men and were in the game until the final minutes. Fenians finished  the scoring with a goal on full time . Final score 2-10 to 0-8.

Juniors in Tramore


St Martins travelled to Tramore to take part in a four Team Tournament , winning against Tramore and Ballyduff and losing against senior side Passage. The lads were well looked after by their hosts led by Chairman Rory o Connor who hopes to make the tournament an annual event.

Junior A second outing


St. Martins Junios A team had their second outing against Lisdowney, but are still pointless. Played in Lisdowney it was the home sides ability to score goals that proved to be the winning of the match. Half-time score 2-6 to 0-3.Martins improved in the second but could not bridge the gap, final score 5-9 to 1-12.

All County Junior League


Saint Martins travelled to Graignamanagh ,to take the local side who are  new to Junior grade after playing for many years at Intermediate level. After a well contested game the home side snatched a draw from a long range free  with the last puck of the game. The half time score was  0-7  to 0-6 in favour of Graignamanagh.  Martins started the second half well and went three points ahead , but a goal by the home side levelled matters. Martins goal came after some good team play , finished by Pauric Haughney.Final score 1-13 each.

Junior A first out


St Martins Junior A team were the first team  to represent our club in any competition for 2012. The venue was Comerfort Park in  Coon , it was the visitors from Graigue-Ballycallan who were the victors in this Junior A League  game . Wind assisted Graigue built up agood lead in the first half 0-11 to 1-2 our goal coming from Pauric Haughney close to the break. Martins re- started well  to cut the lead to three points after ten minutes, a goal  from a long range free by Shane Kinsella who along with Shane Egan were  making  good  debuts at this level of hurling helped in cutting the lead. Ciaran Brennan while kneeling on the ground recovering from a heavy knock thirty metres out pointed  for a great score after twenty minutes. Two further goals by the the visitors saw them regain control of the game and run out winners 2-18 to 2-8 .

All-Ireland


The AIB All-Ireland Inter-Firm Senior Hurling final was played in Muckalee on Saturday 3 March under lights.Teachers from Kilkenny proved too strong from Medtronic from Galway. Result Teachers 2-19 Medtronic 1-11.

County final


Muckalee pitch hosted the Intermediate Football County Final  on the 21 of December. Conahy Shamrocks and St. Patricks of Ballyragett were striving for the the right to play Senior grade in 2012,  and after a well contested Final they  finished level 7 points each. Well done to all who helped with stewarting ,pitch preperation, linesmen, collectin at gates etc. Both sides were well supported on the night.
