Quarter exit


St. Martins made their exit from this years championship at the quarter final stage in Nowlan Park . Martins opponents were City side Dicksboro who started the better to lead at the break 1-8 to 0-9. Martins started the second half well and take the lead but two further goals from Dicksboro sent them into the semi-finals. Despite scoring 19 points with great contributions from John Mulhall and John Maher the goals just would not come despite some gallant efforts by all the lads. Final score 3-15 to 0-19.

Second Shield win


St.Martins collected  second ever Shield Final win with a victory over James Stephens ,the game was played in Nowlan Park. Each side lined out short some players due to injuries,an it was the City side who raced into an early three point lead but Martins recovered well to be a point up at the break 0-7 to 0-6 . The second half saw the only goal of the game and it was for Stephens to once again give a three points differance in the scores put Martins finished well to win by 0-16 to 1-11.The Shield was presented to Saint Martins captain Patrick Nolan by County Board Chairman ,Paul Kinsella.

St.Martins finished the League section of the Championship with a win over Tullaroan in Freshford .This win gives Martins the runner up spot and qualification for the Shield Final next Sunday against County Champions James Stephens. Martins led at the break 1-11 to !-6 and maintained this lead right to the end to finish on the score 2-18 to 2-13. Eoin McGrath and Robert Shore scored the goals.

Well done to Daniel Comerford who got to play in Croke Park on All-Ireland final day in the go games exhibition match representing Kilkenny.

Congratulations to County Board Chairman Paul Kinsella and County panelist Thomas Breen for the part they played in Kilkennys  great Senior All-Ireland victory , the County’s 34 in all.

Big day in Croke Park


Tomorrow is a big day in Croke Park for two St.Martins men . County Board Chairman Paul Kinsella and Thomas Breen senior hurler , best wishes to both and to all  players and managment in the All-Ireland Final.

Juniors bow out


St. Martins Juniors  bowed out of the Championship after losing to Erins Own. Played in  the Cloneen grounds in Clogh it was the Castlecomer side that started the better to lead at the break 0-6 to 0-4 . Martins came into the game and scored a well worked goal from Kieran Kelly with five minutes remaining to leave a goal in the game but despite their best efforts the game ended  1-5 to 0-11.

JuniorA’s Stay


St. Martins Junior A side came out winners when they took on southern side Piltown in a relegation showdown in Tom Ryall Park. The half-time score was 2-4 to 0-8 with martins having a slender lead . Goals from Luke Maher, Dave Dooley and Ruari Kinsella proved to be the winning of the game . Final score 3-10 to 0-16.

Congratulations to players


Congratulations to our players Thomas Breen and Canice Maher who are training hard with Kilkenny teams. Thomas with the Senior side who will contest All-Ireland on the second Sunday in September and Canice with the under 21 side who take on Galway on 25 of August in Semple stadium Thurles. The best of luck to all players and  managment in their quest for All-Ireland honours for Kilkenny.

Byrne Cup win


St Martins defeated Shamrocks of Ballyhale in the Byrne Cup final which was called off earlier in the week due to the bad weather. Shamrocks had first use of a strong cross field  breeze and the half time score was 9 points each. Martins added two goals in the second half the first came from a pass  from John Mulhall to Joe Maher who finished well, the second came from James Dowling who was set up by John Maher. Shamrocks replied with a goal of their own in the dying moments to leave the full-time score 2-12 to 1-13. Johns Park was in in good condition and the good size crowd enjoyed a well contested final. The Cup was presented to Martins Captain Patrick Nolan by Joe Pyke County Board rep.
