St. Martin’s Minors progress to Semi Final
St Martins qualified for the Minor B hurling Semi Final with a win over near neighbours Clara in a tight game at Johns Park.
St Martins ability to get goals proved to be the difference with custodian Jason Shore pulling super saves to keep Clara at bay.
Martins got to the break 2-7 to 1-5 ahead after playing with the elements.
The cushion proved to be enough and they held onto to win to avenge last years extra time loss to the same opponents.

St. Canice’s Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Final
On a typical October day in Freshford, St. Martin’s and Dicksboro squared up to each other in the Quarter Final of the Senior Hurling Championship. It was a second half performance that sealed the deal for St. Martin’s despite a late goal for the Boro. Playing against the wind in the first half, Eoin McGrath got proceedings under way with a well taken point. More than a minute later, Ollie Walsh got Dicksboro off the mark with a point of his own. John Maher put Martin’s three ahead when he finished the ball to the net before converting a free to put four between sides after seven minutes. That was Martin’s last score until the 19th Minute. In the meantime, Cillian Buckley and Shane Maher cut into the deficit before Evan Cody got the equaliser for them. Eddie O’Donoghue leathered the ball into the back of St. Martin’s net to take the lead for Dicksboro. Suddenly, Martin’s found themselves four points down. John Maher pointed two free’s while John Mulhall and Eoin McGrath all added points before half time while their counterparts, Shane Maher, Cillian Buckley, Ollie Walsh and Andrew Gaffney all pointed for Dicksboro to leave the half time score St. Martin’s 1-6, Dicksboro 1-9. The second half saw St. Martin’s come out and take advantage of the strong breeze with a Brian Mulhall point. Shortly after, Eoin McGrath pointed to put one between the sides. Andrew Gaffney pointed two free’s for Dicksboro to increase their lead to three once again. Within the next ten minutes Dicksboro were held while James Dowling and John Maher chipped away to decrease their deficit to a single point. Colin McGrath ensured that Martin’s took the lead scoring 1-1 within in a two minute spell. Andrew Gaffney pointed yet another free to put two between the sides. Canice Maher got the three point lead back once before John Maher scored a further three unanswered points. Martin Gaffney scored a late consolation goal for Dicksboro at the end of normal time. John Maher and Andrew Gaffney had the final say of the game, exchanging scores but it was St. Martin’s who ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-13.

Senior County Hurling Championship Rd. 1
On a lovely day in Páirc Lachtain in Freshford with the sunshine blazing as if it were summer, St. Martin’s took on Fenian’s of Johnstown to gain a place in the Quarter final of the Senior Hurling Championship. Conor Tobin got Fenian’s on the score board with a point. Tom Breen got Martin’s off the mark and Shane Kinsella got the lead point when Eoin McGrath delivered a good pass to him in the fourth minute. John Broderick and James Dowling exchanged scores before John Maher added two points from free’s for Martin’s to go ahead by two points. (0-5 to 0-3) Paul Maher extended that lead further for his side but Fenian’s Kieran Grehan worked hard to cancel out that score with a point of his own. James Dowling shot a lovely point cutting through the middle of field to put Martin’s two up heading towards half time. However, John Broderick converted a 65 and free to leave the sides level at the interval. (St. Martin’s 0-7, Fenian’s 0-7). Within five minutes of the restart, St. Martin’s found themselves two points down as Danny Dermody and Conor Tobin stole the lead for the Fenian’s. However, Martin’s dug deep when Paul Maher and his brother John claimed the lead back. (0-10 to 0-9). John Broderick got Fenian’s final score in the 15th minute with a pointed free. From then on, Martin’s were made to work hard to take back the lead again as John Maher converted three well deserved free’s for Martin’s to win by a three point margin. The fact that there were no goals in the game was down to three fantastic saves from Colin McGrath and one from PJ Ryan who kept their goals intact. With a 0-13 to 0-10 victory St. Martin’s will have their name in the hat for the draw for the quarter finals Monday night.

Camogie League Champions
Well done to St. Martin’s Senior Camogie Team on winning the St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Camogie League/Championship final with a fine victory over reigning County and Leinster Champions Mullinavat. With a magnificent team performance of skill, determination and real heart at the finish saw them emerge 3-12 to 2-12 winners.

U12 hurlers bring the curtain down on a busy year
St Martins Under 12 contested the finals of the Jim Comerford tournament in Conahy recently. Earlier round victories over Mullinavat, Conahy and Lisdowney insured a semi-final against great rivals O Loughlins. After a hard fought and high quality game the City team and eventual winners, emerged victorious. While disappointed the whole panel gained invaluable experience playing at this level and will no doubt stand to them in the future.
St. Martins Under 12 brought down the curtain on a very busy year with a three game blitz in Danesfort last Saturday. Three games V Dicksboro, Young Irelands and Glenmore provided a large attendance with a great mornings hurling. All panel members gave their all and an outstanding attitude allied with some great performances insured the year ended on a bright note. Great credit to the players who provided great entertainment not only last Saturday but throughout the whole year. Well done lads.
Panel: Matthew Shortall, Shane Fahey, Josh Dempsey, Sean Farrell, Thomas Lawlor, Jack Farrell, Luke Burke, Joseph Reid, Cillian Byran, Shane O Neill, Lorcan Agar, Tristan Roche, Bill Dowling, Patrick Brennan, Russell Kealy, Kyle Walshe, Aaron Meaney, Aidan Kelly, Oisin Kelly, Conor Egan, Rory Buggy, Tommy Flynn and Mick Brennan.
CUPS
Thanks to Sean Kelly for bringing the All-Ireland and Leinster Minor trophies to training in Muckalee last Thursday evening. Great excitement ensued with all the lads getting a chance to see the trophies and get photos taken.
Minors Progress to Quarter Finals
St Martins 1-16 0-8 Galmoy Windgap
St Martins minors qualified for the Minor County Quarter Final with a good win in Johns Park. An early Shane Dowling goal set them on the way and by half time they were 1-7 to 0-5 despite suffering the loss of two players to injury.
They added a number of points early in the second half to ease to victory where Galmoy Windgap may have had one eye on next weeks u-16 final. They meet Clara in the quarter finals who’ll be fancied on the 25th Oct.

Junior Championship Round 2
After playing three games to get through the first round, St. Martin’s bowed out of the J.J Kavanagh and Sons Junior Hurling Championship. Played in typical October weather in the Polo Grounds, Jenkinstown. With the aid of a stiff breeze, James Stephen’s raced ahead and lead by 1-12 to 0-2 at half time with Martin’s two points coming from converted free’s by Shane Kinsella. The second half didn’t see much of an improvement for St. Martin’s. James Stephen’s bagged themselves another goal shortly after half time. Even though Luke Maher got a goal back for his side, the damage was already done as James Stephen’s ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 2-19 to St. Martin’s 1-6.
Team: Jason Shore, Brian Cadigan, Aidan Murphy, Shane Egan, Kieran Kelly, Mick Morrissey, Paddy Dowling, Noel D’arcy, Paddy Brennan, Adrian Farrell, Shane Kinsella (0-4), Luke Maher (1-1), Eugene Maher, Shane Coonan, Donal Shore (0-1).
