St Martin’s Hurling Club AGM


St. Martins AGM took place in Muckalee Community Centre on February 8th. Chairman Richard O’ Shea in his address welcomed everyone to the meeting and said it was heartening to see such a large attendance. He gave a brief account of the year’s activities and thanked all the clubs sponsors for their continued support.  He congratulated Thomas Breen on winning his first All-Ireland Senior medal with Kilkenny.  Richard thanked outgoing treasurer Eamon Breen, who, due to other commitments was stepping down.  He expressed gratitude for all Eamon’s work over a long number of years and for the dedication and help he gave the club as Treasurer. He also commended the great work been done by the Bord na N-Óg section of the club. He congratulated Muckalee Football club on completing their first Senior three in a row.  He thanked his fellow officers and the committee for their hard work during the year.  Secretary Lillian Holohan gave a detailed account of all club activities throughout the year.  She extended the sympathy of the club to all members who suffered bereavements during the year.  She wished our new Senior Manager Charlie Carter and everyone involved in the club good fortunes for the year ahead while thanking Sean O’Neill and his management team for their hard work for the past two years.  Treasurer Eamon Breen gave a detailed account of the club’s finances. He said that the Members Draw was our main source of income and he thanked everyone who collects money and all members who continue to support the club each year. He also thanked anyone who helped with fundraising events during the year.  Eamon thanked O’Shea Plant-hire and J.S Bolger for their continued sponsorship throughout the year.  Guest speakers at the meeting included Fr. Martin Ryan, Lar Maher and Patrick O’Flynn.  Officers elected were:

Our U14 Footballers started  the year with a game away to Dunnamaggin, with all players going well we went in at half time 1-3 to 1-2 up, After ten minutes of the second half the score was 1-4 each, From there on Dunnamaggin got on top to win on a scoreline of 4-8 to 1-4.

Muckalee top group


Muckalee footballers finished top of their group when the overcame Conahy Shamrocks at the Polo grounds Jenkinstown. Conahy wind assisted opened the scoring but Muckalee came right back into the game to lead at the break 2-10 to  0-3. The goals came from Bryan Byrne and Canice Maher and the assists from Colin McGrath. Muckalee added  further goals in the second half from Tom Morrissey and John Mulhall with the assist from Canice Maher. Captain Colin McGrath was accurate througout from play and frees. Final score 4-14 to 1-7.

Juniors loose out


Muckalee Junior Footballers were no match for a strong Railyard side in this second round League game played in Muckalee. Railyard got through for some early goals and it was an uphill battle after that but the lads never gave up trying . Muckalee fielded some newcomers  to this grade ,Alan Lalor, Damien Egan ,Jack Dowling, Ronan Tynan, all who done well. Final score 4-4 to 0-2.

Home win


Two sides who had recorded victories in their opening games clashed at Muckalee in this well contested second round fixture. Muckalee started well but each side had its periods of dominance and O Loughlin Gaels were unlucky not to be level at half time when the score was 0-5 t0 0-4 . The Morrissey brothers  who scored some well worked points in the early minutes of the new half and goals from Canice Maher after a pass from Robert Shore and  Paul Maher after a pass from John Maher set Muckalee  up for the win. Final score 2-9 t0 0-4.

Winning start


Just five weeks after winning the 2012 County Final Muckalee footballers made a winning start against Glenmore in the League/Championship . The game was played in Muckalee and the home side led at the break 4-5 to no score. Both sides added three points each in the second half to leave the final score 4-8 to 0-3.
